Bill and I decided to go for a drive to Los Angeles from Las Vegas last weekend to explore four of our favorite sites to share with you. The LaBrea Tar Pits on Wilshire Blvd. What an interesting place that is. The La Brea Tar Pits are in Hancock Park, Miracle Mile area. Natural Asphalt (tar) has seeped from the ground for thousands of years and is still collecting in areas around the park. Strolling through the park, on our way to the Farmers Market, we see many spots where tar is oozing from the ground. Be sure to visit the LaBrea Tar Pits Museum while in the park. Arriving at the world famous Farmers Market, on Fairfax and 3rd, the vendors are all opening their shops, while we are deciding where to have our morning coffee. It is very peaceful and relaxing. Since 1934 this has been a famous gathering place for everyone in the city of Los Angeles to purchase groceries, fresh locally grown produce and experience a variety of domestic and international cuisine. "Come meet us at the corner of 3rd and Fairfax"..was the famous saying at the time. Next we go to Hollywood Blvd. to experience the Hollywood Walk of Fame. See the Stars from Vintage Hollywood to present. From here you can walk to the Famed Dolby Theatre, site of the annual Academy Awards and Graumans Chinese Theatre. There you will see the footprints of many of your favorite stars past and present. If shopping is your thing.... this is the place to be!!! Our final highlight is the picturesque Roosevelt Hotel, often referred to as the Golden Era of Los Angeles architecture. The 1st Academy Awards were held here on May 16, 1929 in the Blossom Ballroom. And also served as home to Marilyn Monroe. When you enter through the doors of this famous Hollywood Hotel, you will experience a walk back in time!!!
